Si bien es uno de las recomendaciones para viajar que quedan más lejos de París (120 kilómetros), realmente vale la pena.

La Abadía de Jumieges se encuentra situada en la población de Jumieges, a escasos 20 minutos de la localidad de Rouen, al norte de Francia, y aunque os parezca una ruina, no es cualquier  ruina, es la ruina más bella de Francia.
Situada entre los monstarios más antiguos e importantes de Occidente, Jumièges ha vivido una historia muy interesante.
Fundada en 654 por Saint-Philibert, cortesano del rey Dagobert I, la abadía ha sido dañada muchas veces, pero su gran silueta aparece gravada para siempre en el paisaje. Destruida en 841 por los Vikingos y posteriormente durante la guerra de los cien años, finalmente vio como sus edificios sirvieron como cantera de piedras al final de la Revolución.
Los vestigios del claustro y de los edificios del convento aparecen dominados por las impresionantes torres gemelas de 46 m de altura que encierran la fachada romana del edificio.
El jardín y sus árboles centenarios muestran la dimensión de aquello que Victor Hugo llamada “las ruinas más bellas de Francia“. Bajo un manto de piedra calcárea blanca, vigilando las orillas del Sena, vive al ritmo de las estaciones, elegante y secreta.
